What is a ducted dehumidifier?

Solutions can be designed for villas, apartments, hotels, offices, retail spaces, warehouses and other residential or commercial properties across the UAE.

A ducted dehumidifier removes excess moisture from the air and distributes treated air through ducts. Unlike a portable unit placed inside a room, the main equipment can normally be installed above the ceiling or in a technical space.

The visible part of the system may be limited to discreet air grilles and the controller. Depending on the model and system design, it can serve an individual room, several zones or a larger part of a property.

Cooling is not moisture control

Why air conditioning may not be enough

An air conditioner can remove some moisture while cooling, but most residential and commercial AC systems are controlled primarily by temperature. Once the required temperature is reached, moisture removal may become insufficient even though the space feels cool.

A dedicated dehumidification system is designed to monitor and control humidity independently. It complements the air-conditioning system; it does not replace it.

ONYX Core

Primarily designed for recirculation-based ducted dehumidification. Depending on the model and project design, controlled fresh air may also be introduced at the inlet.

Installation

Installed above the ceiling, not inside the room

The expression “ducted dehumidifier” describes how the equipment distributes air. Visitors may also encounter terms such as “ceiling-mounted dehumidifier”, “above-ceiling dehumidifier” or “whole-home dehumidifier”.

In a typical ONYX installation, the unit is positioned above a false ceiling or in a technical area. Return and supply air are routed through engineered ducts. Only the grilles and controller normally remain visible in the occupied space.

System design

Dedicated ductwork or HVAC integration

Many residential ONYX installations use dedicated return and supply air paths. Where suitable, the visible grilles may be coordinated with the interior and AC layout.

Some higher-capacity systems, including ONYX Zenith, may be integrated with a wider HVAC system when airflow, static pressure, access, drainage and other engineering requirements have been assessed.

A real UAE installation

Humidity control for a four-level villa in Al Barari

The property experienced indoor relative humidity of approximately 65%. The installed system included one ONYX Aero 70, one ONYX Core 120 and two ONYX Core 70 units serving different areas of the villa.

After commissioning and stabilization, the measured indoor humidity was approximately 50%.

Dedicated air paths were used while selected visible grilles were coordinated with the AC installation.

Selection

How the system is selected

The appropriate system cannot be selected only by floor area or litres-per-day capacity. The assessment should consider:

  • property type and volume;
  • existing AC and ventilation systems;
  • current temperature and humidity;
  • fresh-air infiltration;
  • number and use of rooms;
  • ceiling and technical-space availability;
  • duct routes and available static pressure;
  • condensate drainage;
  • service access;
  • operating schedule;
  • requirements of stored materials or business operations.
