ONYX Aero

ONYX Aero 70

Combined dehumidification, filtered fresh-air supply, exhaust air and total-heat energy recovery in one concealed ducted unit.

ONYX Aero 70 fresh-air, energy-recovery and dehumidification unit.

Fresh-air treatment, ventilation and dehumidification with total-heat recovery

Aero 70 is intended where continuous fresh-air treatment matters. Outgoing conditioned air helps precondition incoming hot and humid outdoor air through the total-heat exchange core, which may reduce the load on the dehumidifier and the air-conditioning system compared with untreated direct fresh-air introduction.

Aero 70 moves two separated air streams. Stale indoor air is extracted and passed through the total-heat exchange core on its way outdoors, while incoming outdoor air passes through the other side of the same core and is filtered before it enters the space. The core transfers heat and moisture energy between the two separated air streams; the streams themselves do not mix. A refrigerant dehumidification module removes moisture from recirculated indoor air, or from a mixture of indoor and outdoor air, and condensate is discharged through a drainage line.

  • Dehumidification capacity up to 70 L/day at 30 °C and 80% RH
  • Recirculation airflow approximately 550 m³/h in dehumidification operation
  • Filtered fresh-air supply up to 450 m³/h with balanced exhaust up to 400 m³/h
  • Total-heat (enthalpy) recovery between the separated outgoing and incoming air streams
  • Four confirmed operating functions with automatic switching

Installation architecture

Separate concealed ducted system with dedicated indoor supply and return ducts and dedicated outdoor intake and exhaust ducts, installed independently of the air-conditioning system.

Most ONYX NOVA solutions are concealed ducted systems installed separately from the air-conditioning system. ONYX Zenith may also be integrated into an air-conditioning or wider HVAC system where the project design allows.

Confirmed operating functions

  • Filtered fresh-air supply — outdoor air is filtered and supplied to the space
  • Exhaust air — stale indoor air is extracted and discharged outdoors
  • Recirculation dehumidification — indoor air is recirculated through the dehumidification module
  • Mixed-air dehumidification — outdoor air combined with indoor return air is dehumidified
  • Total-heat (enthalpy) recovery operates between the separated supply and exhaust streams
  • In automatic operation the unit switches between these states according to indoor and outdoor conditions

Filtration stages

  • G4 primary filter on the exhaust-air path
  • F6 medium-efficiency filter
  • H12 high-efficiency filter on the fresh-air path
  • The total-heat exchange core is an energy-transfer component, not a filtration stage

Controls

  • Dedicated LCD control panel
  • RS485 communication using the Modbus protocol for integration with a higher-level controller
  • Automatic mode selects the operating state from indoor and outdoor sensor readings

Maintenance

  • The primary filter is washable; the medium- and high-efficiency filters are replacement items
  • The total-heat exchange core can be vacuumed or rinsed at low pressure and must be fully dried in shade before refitting
  • Filter inspection, cleaning and replacement intervals depend on operating hours, dust load and site conditions. Follow the maintenance schedule established during commissioning and use approved replacement filters.
  • High-pressure water must never be used on the core or the filters
  • The unit must be isolated from the power supply before any maintenance

Installation requirements (for professionals)

  • Maintenance access panel of at least 600 × 450 mm on the service-door side
  • At least 100 mm clearance above the unit and at least 60 mm below it to the false ceiling
  • Level suspension on M10 threaded rods, checked with a spirit level
  • Outdoor intake and exhaust ducts must be insulated and terminated with rain hoods and insect mesh
  • Duct runs should limit bends, use radiused elbows and keep spigot diameters unchanged
  • If the unit may have been transported or stored tilted, allow it to stand for two hours before starting dehumidification

Important engineering limitations

  • Aero is installed independently of the air-conditioning system, with its own ductwork
  • Recovery performance depends on outdoor conditions, airflow rates and system design
  • Fresh-air and exhaust volumes fall as duct resistance rises with length, reduced diameter or additional bends
  • Selection follows a review of the property, fresh-air requirement, moisture load and duct design

Technical notes

  • Specifications on this page are taken from the manufacturer product manual for ONYX Aero 70.
  • Enthalpy exchange efficiency figures apply under rated test conditions and are not a claim of reduced electricity consumption or running cost.
  • Fresh-air capability is not exclusive to Aero — Core 70 and Core 120 also process a controlled quantity of fresh air mixed with indoor return air.

Technical note: Final equipment selection and expected performance depend on site conditions, system design, outdoor-air conditions and professional assessment.
