Hotels and Hospitality

Zoned humidity control and air treatment planned around hotel operations.

What you are seeing

Excess humidity in hotels can cause musty odours, condensation and mould in guest rooms, corridors, wardrobes and back-of-house areas. It may also affect bedding, textiles, furniture, decorative finishes and stored supplies. Even when the room temperature feels comfortable, high humidity can make the space feel damp and reduce the quality of the guest experience.

Why it happens

Hotels have constantly changing humidity loads. Guest occupancy varies, bathrooms generate moisture, doors open frequently, and large volumes of hot and humid outdoor air enter through ventilation systems. Unoccupied rooms may operate at reduced cooling levels, while laundries, kitchens, spa areas and coastal locations can create additional humidity challenges. Air conditioning controls temperature but may not maintain consistent humidity across all areas of the property.

The ONYX NOVA approach

ONYX NOVA designs a zoned humidity-control and air-treatment solution around the operational needs of the hotel. Concealed ONYX Core units can independently maintain more stable humidity in guest rooms, corridors and selected service areas without relying solely on the air-conditioning system.

Where continuous fresh-air treatment, exhaust and energy recovery are required, ONYX Aero may be integrated into the project. Higher-capacity ONYX solutions can be considered for larger shared or specialised spaces, while ONYX Aura may support improved air cleanliness through active electrostatic purification in compatible air-conditioning systems.

Equipment selection takes into account occupancy patterns, fresh-air volumes, noise requirements, maintenance access and the need to minimise disruption to hotel operations.

Technical note: Equipment selection for this application is project-specific. It is never derived from floor area alone, and a residential Core model is not automatically appropriate for every property of this type.

Technical note: Final equipment selection and expected performance depend on site conditions, system design, outdoor-air conditions and professional assessment.
