Core versus Aero

Both are concealed ducted ONYX NOVA systems installed separately from the air-conditioning system. The difference is emphasis: Core is recirculation-led with controlled fresh-air mixing; Aero is fresh-air-oriented with integrated energy recovery.

Comparison of ONYX Core and ONYX Aero
 ONYX CoreONYX Aero
Primary roleRecirculated indoor-air dehumidification and filtrationFiltered fresh air, exhaust, dehumidification and total-heat recovery in one unit
Dehumidification capacityCore 48: up to 48 L/day · Core 70: up to 70 L/day · Core 120: up to 120 L/day (rated conditions)Up to 70 L/day at 30 °C and 80% RH
Nominal airflowCore 70: approx. 550 m³/h · Core 120: approx. 1,000 m³/h550 m³/h recirculation in dehumidification operation
Fresh airCore 70 and Core 120 accept a controlled quantity of outdoor fresh air mixed with indoor return air; Core 48 subject to confirmed project designFresh-air supply 450 / 315 / 225 m³/h with balanced exhaust 400 / 280 / 200 m³/h
Energy recoveryNot applicableTotal-heat (enthalpy) exchange core between the separated supply and exhaust streams; 56% summer and 66% winter enthalpy exchange efficiency under rated test conditions
InstallationConcealed, with dedicated ONYX Core return and supply ductworkConcealed, with dedicated indoor supply and return ducts and dedicated outdoor intake and exhaust ducts
Typically considered whenIndoor humidity, mould, musty odours and interior protection are the priorityContinuous fresh-air treatment and ventilation quality are the priority

Technical note: This comparison is an initial guide. Final selection requires a review of the property, moisture load, fresh-air requirements and proposed duct design.

Important

Fresh-air capability is not exclusive to Aero.

Core 70 and Core 120 both process a controlled quantity of outdoor fresh air mixed with indoor return air at the unit inlet. The allowable quantity depends on incoming outdoor-air temperature, relative humidity and system design. Aero adds a total-heat exchange core between the separated supply and exhaust streams; recovery performance depends on outdoor conditions, airflow rates and system design, and no reduction in electricity consumption is published without a project-specific calculation.
