Nano-Water Ionization Technology

How nano-water ionization adds an air-treatment stage to ONYX NOVA Core, Aero, PolarStar and Alpha, alongside Primary, HEPA and Activated Carbon filtration.

Nano-water ionization provides an additional air-treatment stage in ONYX NOVA Core, Aero, PolarStar and Alpha systems.

Nano-water ions vs conventional negative ions

Nano-water ion

  1. Active OH species surrounded by water molecules
  2. Odour molecule dissolves into the water layer
  3. Reaction with active OH species
  4. Odour component reduced

Conventional negative ion

  1. No surrounding water layer
  2. Less stable in air
  3. Can react more quickly with oxygen or nitrogen
  4. Reduced persistence
The water layer helps stabilise active OH species and allows them to interact with selected odour components and airborne contaminants.

How nano-water ions are generated

No external water supply required
  1. 1Moisture is taken from surrounding air
  2. 2Moisture condenses at the ionization module
  3. 3High-voltage electric field / electrostatic atomisation
  4. 4Nano-water ions are generated
  5. 5Active OH species are carried within the water-based ion

How nano-water ions are formed

The module takes moisture directly from the surrounding air, so no external water supply is required.

A high-voltage electric field and electrostatic atomisation process generate nano-water ions from this moisture.

These water-based ions carry active OH species. The surrounding water layer helps keep the active components stable in the air for longer than conventional negative ions.

What the technology is designed to support

The technology is designed to support:

  • reduction of certain odours;
  • interaction with selected airborne contaminants;
  • additional treatment of air passing through the system.

Ionization and filtration work together

Ionization complements the physical filtration stages. It does not replace Primary, HEPA or Activated Carbon filtration.

See how ONYX NOVA combines both on the air purification and filtration systems page.

Technical note: Final equipment selection and expected performance depend on site conditions, system design, outdoor-air conditions and professional assessment.
