Why one number is not enough
Comfort is influenced by temperature, humidity, air movement and the building itself. A target that suits one property may not suit another with different construction, glazing, occupancy or ventilation.
What the target depends on
Room volume and ceiling height, outdoor conditions, quantity of introduced fresh air, infiltration, occupancy, wet areas, exhaust performance and the operating schedule all influence the humidity band a system is designed to hold.
Stability matters as much as the value
Sustained swings in humidity affect comfort, finishes, joinery, textiles and stored items. A system designed to hold a stable band behaves differently from one that reacts only when conditions are already poor.
Establishing your target
Target humidity is confirmed during assessment and design, together with sensor placement and the control strategy. Published target figures for a specific property are only issued after that review.
