Musty Odours and Damp Wardrobes

Persistent damp smells in wardrobes, closed rooms and storage areas may indicate excess humidity, limited air circulation or moisture already absorbed by materials.

What you are seeing

Wardrobes, dressing rooms, storage spaces and rarely used rooms may feel damp or develop a persistent musty odour. Clothing, shoes, leather goods, textiles and stored belongings can absorb moisture, while mould may develop behind cabinets, inside joinery or on surfaces with limited airflow.

Why it happens

Closed spaces receive little air movement and may remain warmer or more humid than the surrounding room. Humid outdoor air, insufficient dehumidification and cold surfaces can allow moisture to accumulate inside wardrobes and concealed areas. A persistent odour may also come from existing mould, a water leak or damp building materials. These causes must be identified and treated separately rather than masked with fragrance or air cooling.

The ONYX NOVA approach

ONYX NOVA assesses humidity levels, air circulation and the locations where odours or dampness occur. Where excess airborne humidity is a contributing factor, a concealed ONYX Core system can automatically maintain more stable humidity and distribute dry, treated air across the affected rooms and wardrobe areas through its own engineered air paths.

Air distribution may be designed to improve circulation around dressing rooms, wardrobes and other enclosed zones where technically appropriate. ONYX Aura may complement the solution by capturing airborne particles in compatible air-conditioning systems, but it does not replace humidity control or professional mould remediation.

Existing mould must be professionally cleaned, and any water leaks or damp construction materials must be repaired separately.

Technical note: Final equipment selection and expected performance depend on site conditions, system design, outdoor-air conditions and professional assessment.
